The Dictionary ProjectThe Batesville Rotary Club is pleased to sponsor The Dictionary Project for third graders in Batesville schools.

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, our club will give a dictionary to each third grade student in the Batesville Intermediate School and St. Louis School.  This dictionary will be for each student to keep and use throughout their education.

Through this literacy project, we hope to help students to improve their communication skills and make the most of their education.

ShelterBox - Rotary Project PartnerIn 2012-13, Batesville Rotary Club’s major International Service Project is ShelterBox USA.  ShelterBox is the largest international disaster relief organization that provides shelter, access to clean water and lifesaving equipment immediately following a disaster.

ShelterBox instantly responds to earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, hurricanes, cyclones, tsunamis or conflict by delivering boxes of aid.  Established in 2000, ShelterBox has responded to over 170 disasters in more than 70 countries to date.

Each box supplies an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless.

Preserve Planet EarthAt the request of the Mayor of Batesville, the Batesville Rotary Club works with the city on “Green Committee” matters and, in 2013 we helped plant trees in Batesville’s newly-designed downtown area. Thanks to the BMS Interact Club for their assistance. Together, we joined with Batesville Main Street, the Mayor’s Youth Council, and the Batesville Beautification League to celebrate the city being named a “Tree City.”

In 2011 and 2012, we sponsored the Batesville area’s  Earth Day / Arbor Day Celebration.

Watch for more  “green” activities and events throughout the area as we develop our plans with the City of Batesville.
